Social Emotional Learning happening at Platte Canyon School District

Platte Canyon School District is launching the new year with one new Transformative Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program at FMS called BASE a CASEL recommended program, and a somewhat new program at DCES called Second Step this is a CASEL SELect program. CASEL materials focus on a different kind of SEL, it is called Transformative SEL and that Transformative SEL can be used as a lever for equity and social justice (see here for more information).

Some parents find themselves uncomfortable with Transformative SEL. As a parent/guardian or taxpayer in the school district you may request to view the full curriculum by contacting Kay Genschork kgenschorck@pcsdk12.org in the district office. Additionally, you can Opt-Out of the class completely, this involves emailing the principal of the school and requesting that your child be given an alternative option when SEL classes are taking place.
