UPDATED: Platte Canyon School BOARD Withholds Superintendent Evaluation From the Public

Update 3/13/2025: Ms. Winefeldt (Vice President of the BoE) provided PACE this new CRS effective 8/7/2024 regarding Superintendent evaluations C.R.S. 22-9-109(1)(a) (a) "The evaluation report of the chief executive officer of any school district, as it relates to the performance of the chief executive officer in fulfilling the adopted school district objectives, fiscal management of the district, district planning responsibilities, and supervision and evaluation of district personnel, must be open for inspection by any person at reasonable times;…”. This is her response provided with the CRS "Previous boards did things a certain way, this board has chosen to do things differently, based upon the law. Your difference of opinion does not accurately reflect the operations of our district."

Based on this response the BOE has determined that they are not required to make the evaluation public. As of March 13, 2025 the evaluation has not been posted to the district website.

PACE did give the district the option to publish the evaluation themselves yet the Superintendent Mike Schmidt stated that he "serves at the pleasure of the board" and from this quote it appears that even if the Superintendent wanted this to be public, the BOE would not allow this evaluation to be posted.

PACE will continue to CORA request the evaluations annually to provide the transparency the district is lacking.

3/11/2025: The Platte Canyon Board of Education approved the Superintendent evaluation last night, March 10, 2025 in the consent agenda. The BOE has chosen not to publish the evaluation with the other documents approved in the consent agenda, see the documents here it is clear that item (h) is missing from the folder.

PACE CORA requested the evaluation this morning. The Superintendent responded this afternoon with the document, see below:
